Dare MacIntosh is a skilled mercenary searching for his best friend’s sister Alani, who has been kidnapped. When his search leads him to Mexico, Dare finds his friend’s sister has been taken by human traffickers. Along with some other young girls, there is also an American woman who has been severely beaten and mistreated, while the others seem to be untouched. Not one to leave a woman in danger, Dare takes care of the traffickers, rescues Alani, frees the other women and takes the American victim with him.
When Molly wakes up and finds herself out of her captor’s lair and in a strange van with a man, she goes into fight mode and ends up giving her savior a bloody nose. After Dare explains to her who he is and that she is safe, Molly explains to him that she believes someone in her life hired those men to torture her and decides to hire Dare as her protector until she finds who’s behind her kidnapping. Dare accepts Molly’s job offer and as they start to delve into who’s behind her abduction and spending more time together, Dare finds himself wanting to break his number one rule: never get emotionally involved with “the job.”
I have to start off by saying although I love a good romance, I haven’t read too many contemporary romance novels and this is the first book I’ve read by this author. That being said, I couldn’t put it down! Dare’s chivalrous and honorable nature is enough to make any girl swoon over him! He’s a true Alpha male who can be possessive, yet has a tender side which is evident from the moment he rescues Molly. I love how he gives her the space she needs but is there by her side whenever she needs comfort.
Molly is one of the strongest heroines I’ve read. There aren’t many women who experience something so traumatic and are able to cope with it so well and stay level headed. I wanted her to breakdown at some point and show some vulnerability but was left wanting, she’s one tough cookie. Her independent ways and determination are quite admirable. Her personality is a little bland for me but is overlooked by her strengths as a character.
WHEN YOU DARE is a little light on the action but heavy on the suspense and romance. You’ll want to put everything aside to finish reading it. An Alpha hero who will make you drool and a heroine that isn’t afraid of a little danger are always great characteristics in my book and this book delivers on both. Dare is an exceptional hero and I can’t wait to be introduced to the rest of Ms. Foster’s Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor!
