A Different Kind of MOnster
By Tiffany Allee

Paranormal romance is filled with sexy monsters. Vampires, shifters, and demons are all favorites. And for good reason. Authors are able to twist old legends with new ideas to create irresistible men.

But the hero of Succubus Lost, Agent Valerio Costa, is a little different. He’s a salamander. I’m guessing pictures of lizard-like creatures are flashing through your mind right now, but that’s not exactly the type of salamander Costa is. He’s a fire elemental who has the power to control fire, and—to a certain extent—create it. His salamander heritage also gives him the wicked useful ability of fire resistance. Although—as he tells the heroine of Succubus Lost, Marisol—he’s not as good at resisting fire as the average salamander.

I guess I could just let Costa explain his abilities. Here is a discussion between Costa and Marisol about his powers.
“I’m no slouch in the fire production department,” he said, voice matter of fact. No arrogance touched his tone. Interesting. “Salamanders are like most oh-dubs. They vary in power and ability. Me, for example…”

“What about you?”
“I’m pretty strong in the fire creation area—probably ninety-fifth percentile, if one measured such things. But I have very low resistance to fire.”
I raised an eyebrow at that and took a sip of my tea.
“Oh, I’m not saying I’m quite as susceptible as a human, but I’m pretty weak compared to other salamanders.” He leaned forward and stared at me with his dark and intense gaze. “If you light me on fire…”
My breath caught in my throat. Realizing I was leaning toward him, I grimaced and moved back. “So you burn.”
“Yes, which is depressing for someone so good at making fire.” Amusement traced his expression and I barely refrained from rolling my eyes at him like Elaine had done to me so much lately.
“Sorry that your pyromaniacism is so limited.”
The mock sadness that touched his expression made me grin.

What type of paranormal creatures do you like to see as a love interest?

Someone is kidnapping and incinerating otherworlders beyond recognition, and Detective Marisol Whitman, a succubus, races to find the murderer before he claims another victim. But her pursuit is derailed when her responsible younger sister vanishes. Marisol suspects foul play and enlists support from an unlikely source: an agent from the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency, Valerio Costa.

When the trail pointing to everyone from vampires to witches dries up, Agent Costa admits to knowing more than he’s shared. Marisol’s sister’s kidnapper harnesses more magic than she can imagine—and they’re running out of time. To find her sister before her powers are drained and twisted beyond recognition, Marisol must connect the dots between cases and put her trust in Costa, a salamander who may burn her before she can solve either case.
