MAGICAL TRICKS. DEMONIC TREATS.

After narrowly escaping her fate as a sacrificial scapegoat, Arcadia Bell is back to normal. Or at least as ordinary as life can be for a renegade magician and owner of a tiki bar that caters to Earthbound demons. She’s gearing up for the busiest day of the year—Halloween—when a vengeful kidnapper paralyzes the community. The influential head of the local Hellfire Club taps Cady to track down the fiendish bogeyman, and now that she’s dating red-hot Lon Butler, the Club’s wayward son, she can hardly say no.

Cady and Lon untangle a gruesome thirty-year trail of clues that points to danger for the club members’ children. But locating the person behind the terror will require some metaphysical help from Cady’s loyal bar patrons as well as her potent new Moonchild powers—and she’d better figure it out before the final victim disappears and her own darkest secret becomes her biggest enemy.

Must-Read

One of my top five favorite reads for 2012! The sassy magician Arcadia Bell is back and better than ever!

After her near death experience in Kindling the Moon, Cady’s life is starting to get back to normal…well her kind of normal. She’s dating demon hottie Lon Butler and is back to business at her Tambuku Tiki Lounge. With Halloween just days away, a sinister kidnapper is on the loose and his targets are none other than the children of the Hellfire Club members, the same club Lon’s father is a member of. When the head of the Hellfire Club, Ambrose Dare, calls Cady and Lon for help in tracking the kidnapper her world is once again thrown in a whirlwind of mystery and danger…so much for normal! Things take a dark turn when Lon’s son Jupe becomes a target and the secret of Cady’s real identity becomes a bargaining chip in catching the bogeyman before he strikes again.

I can’t get enough of this series and SUMMONING THE NIGHT was just as engaging as the first book. Even with all the heart stopping action you get a look at the developing relationship between Cady and her boyfriend, and the bond she’s formed with his son. Cady is a spitfire of a heroine and I love that we get to see a more vulnerable side to her, especially when she interacts with the two new men in her life (well, man and teenager…LOL).

Cady and Lon have a strong adult relationship in which they communicate with each other well but are not free of their doubts, which is quite refreshing in a genre of heroines who usually have a wall up and are always right! Their coupling is organic and sexy with a fair share of humor. I love their love and find them to be one of the most genuine and realistic couples I’ve read in the world of Urban Fantasy. Teenage characters can sometimes be whinny or full of angst but Jenn Bennett changes the game with Jupe. He’s smart, outspoken (in a good way) and wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to family…you’ll instantly be a fan!

I find it hard to express all my emotions for this fabulous book without giving any of it away, but will try my best. Ms. Bennett crafts a seductive world of dark magic, compelling characters with edge of your seat suspense and a lot of heart. Her writing has all the elements of a great urban fantasy with a magic touch of originality that is effortless and welcomed. With a solid plot, an intriguing cliffhanger and unforgettable characters, SUMMONING THE NIGHT will no doubt keep you enthralled and pining for more of Cady, Lon and Jupe!
