A dark and intriguing debut with a fresh look into werewolf lore!
Since she can remember, Angelia Lafosse has known she would never lead a “normal” life. Growing up with a foster families after losing her parents in a car accident has left Lia with questions about her past. When the handsome Ryan befriends her at the start of her senior year, Lia begins to learn of her true origins, which include the supernatural, reincarnation and help explain the vivid dreams she has experienced throughout her life. With that truth Lia soon comes to realize those closest to her are have become her enemies, putting her life and second chance at love at stake.
The Rising Moon intertwines great elements that make for an fascinating read: a reincarnated werewolf heroine, a forbidden romance, a family set on revenge and more supernaturals in the form of shifters and vampires. Our heroine Lia is a loner who slowly opens up to Ryan as their friendship develops and she is told she is a reincarnated werewolf, learns he is a shape shifter and others around her are supernaturals as well. If that isn’t enough to deal with, Lia is torn between her attraction to the werewolf Lyle (her friend’s brother) and the seductive vampire Adam who everyone warns her of but she’s drawn to. While I’m not one for hysterical heroines, I would have appreciated Lia to question all these revelations surrounding her a bit more than she does…I was missing that fieriness that you tend to see in paranormal romance heroines from her, but also understand she’s quite young.
Three charming but completely different alpha male characters are introduced throughout the story, but I feel only one was truly executed, Ryan’s character. I was left wanting when it came to Lyle and Adam, I would have loved more of a back story regarding these two and feel the romance between Lia and Adam was a bit rushed for my liking (even with Lia being reincarnated and all). The constant mystery and suspense make up for the rushed romance, keeping you entertained and wondering what comes next. Nilsa has created a mysterious and dangerous paranormal world of legends, magic and supernaturals worthy of praise and a sequel I hope will answer all my burning questions!
