Sons of Anarchy Has Taken Over My Brain!
By Jennifer James

Thank you for having me on Romancing the Dark Side today. I love talking about things in books and pop culture that get me excited. While I’m here to pimp my newest release in a shameless and entertaining way, I’m also here to chat and *hopefully* make some new friends. I mean, yeah, I love selling books. But I also love to get all goofy fan girl squee over tv shows, book series, and movies with other people.

What am I going squee about right now? Sons of Anarchy.

I realize that I’m late to the party on this one. I can’t claim total responsibility for that though. You see, I don’t have cable. And without cable, I don’t even have basic channels like 3, 5, and 8. Nada. Nothin’.  I’m dependent on Netflix or Hulu or Amazon for my shows. The good news is that Netflix finally has a lot of good content and not just weird foreign B-movies or Hollywood D-list junk.

The bad news? I get on a binge and burn through entire seasons in a matter of days. Sons of Anarchy scared me for the longest time. All reports said it was violent (graphically) and then I heard about the instances of *spoiler* sex crimes *spoiler* and I stayed far, far away.

But that darned thumbnail with its red, white, and blue color scheme overlaid with a bad-ass biker guy, decked out in leathers, a gun pointed behind him, longish hair flying, and seeming to roll down hill (perhaps to what I call The Bad Place) teased and tormented me. I added it to my instant queue. It sat there for almost a year, a rose red deadly apple waiting to be plucked….

And now I’ve glutted myself on all five seasons and am impatient for more. The anti-heroes! The motorcycles! The code of honor! The inner family dynamics and bickering! Old girlfriends and lovers, versus new wives. Crazy mothers-in-law. The IRA. Mexican Cartels. Bullets flying, deals struck and held on the honor of a handshake, betrayal, ambitions, and any cast member, at any time, can die.

Charlie Hunnam getting out of the shower…… In fact, Charlie at any time partially or completely nude….nom nom nom. *let’s rewind that part, shall we?*

And while we’re at it, I have a ridiculous crush on Tommy Flanagan (Chibs), and Juan Carlos Ortiz (Juice). Hot Scottish accent and wow, have you seen Juice without a shirt on?

O.o

Ahem. Are you a fan? If you haven’t watched yet, are you ready to? *grin* That show has done more to reinforce my love of a good anti-hero than anything I’ve ever seen. I mean, SAMCRO is a bunch of bad guys. Yeah, they love their families. Are loyal to each other right to the bitter dregs at the bottom of a stale beer (mostly). But let’s face it. They run guns. Mule cocaine. Prostitution. Kidnap, torture, maim, kill, dump bodies…..There’s a certain code of honor among their club, but make no mistake. You get in their way, and you’re getting moved.

Gah, I feel the need to go write a book with a great, big, tangled mess of a plot, anti-heroes and crazy moms.

So I’m wondering, how much does a book cover influence you to buy? I seriously think that thumbnail for SOA worked things on my brain over time. That, and the reviews/buzz I kept hearing. Leave a comment and enter my Rafflecopter. ☺  Hope to see you around….

ABOUT THE BOOK…

She’s fed up with being fed on.

All Miranda Thibodeaux really wants to do is survive corporate hell and be left alone. But as the daughter of the Incubi king, being left alone isn’t on her schedule. And as an avatar to a goddess with multiple personality issues, taking things in stride isn’t either.

Daniel looks like an ordinary surfer boy–T. T. B.–Tall, Tanned, and Blonde. Hot he may be, but ordinary he’s not. Beneath the pretty packaging lies a ruthless warrior, a servant to the Vampire Council. His mission is to find Miranda and present her to the council, then get the hell out of Dodge before he loses his focus. The last thing he needs is the distraction of the testy female.

When circumstances force Miranda to turn to T.T.B. for help, they both end up with more than they bargained for. And that normal human life she wanted? Not really doable when everyone wants a piece of her…

Jennifer James never thought she would be a multi-published author of erotica and erotic romance. What she likes best are happy endings – whatever that might mean for the characters. Wife, mother of two Tiny Divas, and college student, when not writing Jenn enjoys the outdoors, adventures of all sorts, horror movies, and the occasional comic book.

  1. Hi Jennifer,
I haven’t watched Sons of Anarchy yet but now I’ll have to give in and watch it. 🙂 As for covers I will say certain covers just don’t entice me to pick up the book. But a really great looking cover will cause me to pick it up and read the back of the book blurb. But if it’s an Author I know and have always read I’m picking up the book anyway. :)Thanks for the post.

    • Hi Carol! Thanks for commenting. Yeah, you know, I’m not crazy about Patricia Briggs’s cover for Fair Game, but I love her series/books, so I bought that bad boy just cause it had her name on it. 🙂

    • Haha!

Beautiful Disaster, I know what you mean! (You a fan of Jamie’s? Did you hear what Amazon is up to with her book? EEP! Go check out FB and share to help her. They’re really messing her up. 🙁 )

  2. I have to admit I have not watched SoA, thinking I should fix that. Covers have made me pick up a book but not buy it. If the story doesnt sound good I cant rationalize the purchase.
