interview
Welcome back to Romancing the Dark Side Linda. I’m really excited to have you on the blog again and for an interview this time! Help yourself to some virtual scones and tea or coffee and let’s get right to the good stuff.

RtDS: Your paranormal world in the Grigori series is very dark and complex. Did you do extensive research on the angel/nephilim mythology for your story?

LP: Thank you so much for inviting me to visit again, Lori! And thank you for the coffee…one can never have too much of a good thing, right? *slurps*

I did a lot of research, yes, but not in a very organized fashion, I’m afraid. I was still very much in a beginner’s learning curve where my craft was concerned, and I hadn’t given a lot of thought to world-building. During the writing of the first draft, I had some wonderful conversations with a friend who was well versed in angel mythology, but I didn’t start doing actual research until that draft was pretty much complete. When I did get into the research, it consisted of sifting through reams of stuff in the library and on the Internet in search of tidbits that I could weave into the story or that sparked my imagination further. I suppose you might call me a selective researcher, lol!

RtDS: Do you find it difficult to write about angels as sexual creatures given their reputation of being “pure” beings?

LP: *laughs* I tossed the idea of purity from the get-go. My reasoning went like this: what if God’s creation of humans in his (or in the One’s case, her) image wasn’t limited to physical appearance? What if it extended to all kinds of imperfections? And if that was true of humans, and the same deity had created angels, would those angels not have many of the same issues? Their sexuality was just a part of that idea.

RtDS: Without any major spoilers, which was your favorite chapter or scene to write in Sins of the Lost and why?

LP: Ohhh…that’s a tough one. I have several favorites, to be honest. I particularly love the scene between the One and Lucifer, though, because it was both hugely challenging and extraordinarily gratifying to tie up that particular story thread. I do love a challenge! J

RtDS: I think of Alex as a tortured heroine, which I love. Describe her character to readers in 140 characters or less.

LP: Speaking of challenges… 😉 All right, here goes: Tough but human; likes to be in control. Damaged but holding it together. Stubborn. Deep sense of responsibility. More fragile than she knows. (That’s two characters over…do I lose points??) (not at all!)

RtDS: Which characters give you more satisfaction while writing, the flawed heroines, tortured heroes or sympathetic villains?

LP: Argh. Again with the tough questions! They all have their challenges and appeal for me, but I think I probably get the most satisfaction from tortured heroes. I’m a total sucker for characters like Ironman and Batman…there’s just something about a strong man who struggles with his scars and flaws while trying to do the right thing…*sigh*

RtDS: I have to admit that I was completely shocked when you incorporated the “mini love-triangle” between Alex, Seth and Aramael in Sins of the Son. Can readers hope for some closure on this triangle in Sins of the Lost or will you continue to torture us? LOL

LP: Um…no comment? 😉 (you wicked, wicked lady!)

RtDS: Is there a theme or idea you haven’t written about yet but would love to work with?

LP: I have an idea brewing for another series after this one…but this time I’m doing my research first!

RtDS: Who are some of your go to authors when you want to get away in a book?

LP: Top pick is Jim Butcher’s Dresden series. I also love Kelley Armstrong, Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, and many YA authors.

RtDS: Is there any particular author or book that influenced you either growing up or as an adult?

LP: I don’t think there’s a particular author, no…but every book I read helped to fire my imagination and desire to pen my own stories, so I owe many, many authors a huge debt of gratitude!

RtDS: What projects are you currently working on?

LP: I’m currently working on the fourth and final book in the Grigori Legacy series, Sins of the Warrior. That ought to keep me busy for a few months! 🙂

JUST FOR FUN…

RtDS: Summer or Fall?

LP: I’m torn. I love fall’s cooler temperatures, but I’m not as fond of the white stuff that follows close behind. I love that summer gives me more time, but I can’t say that I’m a heat-lover.

I think I’m just finicky, is what I am. 😉

RtDS: Angels or vampires?

LP: Angels all the way.

RtDS: All time favorite angel movie?

LP: Constantine.

RtDS: You’re stranded on a deserted island and can pick one book and one person to spend the time with (fictional or real). Which book do you choose and who would you want for company?

LP: I’d want my husband for company (he’s a really awesome guy), and I think I’d want Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of that story…

RtDS: What’s your current guilty pleasure?

LP: Sleeping in past 6 a.m. Now that the days are getting shorter, I just can’t seem to haul my butt out of bed at my usual 5:30…and the bed is just soooo warm and cozy.
RtDS: Linda, as always it’s a pleasure to have you stop by the blog. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all my questions and congratulations on the upcoming release of Sins of the Lost!

LP: It was totally my pleasure, Lori! Thank you for having me to visit, and for taking part in the blog tour. 🙂

Heaven and Hell are on the brink of war as Lucifer builds his Nephilim army and waits for his new agenda to become a reality — that of having a Nephilimchild of his own bloodline to lead his forces to cataclysmic victory.

With rumors of the pending war rampant on Earth, Alex fights to save humanity from its own panic –¬ leaving little time for her fledgling
relationship with Seth, the man with heavenly origins who has captured her heart. But when Nephilim children begin to disappear, along with Alex’s own vulnerable niece, the inevitable war between Heaven and Hell becomes as personal as sin.

Heaven has its own plans to fight the coming apocalypse, but first it needs Seth back. Asked to betray the man she loves, Alex must turn for help to the soulmate she thought she’d given up — the Archangel Aramael, who may be her last chance to save her family and humanity from the ashes of Lucifer’s Armageddon.

About Linda Poitevin

Linda Poitevin Author Photo

Linda Poitevin was born and raised in B.C., Canada’s westernmost province. Growing up in an era when writing was “a nice hobby, dear, but what are you going to do for a living?”, Linda worked at a variety of secretarial jobs before applying to be a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Due to an error in measurement, however, she was turned down when she didn’t meet the height requirement of that time. Undeterred, Linda became a civilian member in the force and was a dispatcher for two and a half years, during which time she met her husband, a police officer.

Following their transfer to Ottawa, Linda went on to become a real estate agent and then a human resources consultant before starting a family. She remained a stay-at-home mom, homeschooled her youngest daughter for nine years and, now that she has realized writing can be more than a nice hobby, she continues to live her dream of being a cop vicariously through her characters.

Linda currently lives near Ottawa with her husband, youngest of three daughters, one very large husky/shepherd/Great Dane-cross dog, a cat, two rabbits, and a bearded dragon lizard. When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found in her garden or walking her dog along the river or through the woods.

In addition to her books, Linda also does freelance writing and editing. Information about her services can be found at www.lindapoitevin.ca. Linda is a member of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, Quebec Writers’ Federation, Romance Writers of America, RWA Futuristic Fantasy Paranormal Chapter, and Ottawa Romance Writers’ Association.

I’ve always been a fan of books featuring the battle between Heaven and Hell. Nephilims have been a particular interest because of the mythology surrounding them. Love the series.

  2. I have only read the first in the series so far, but I would have to say the intensity between the characters. I am a character person and love good character relationships.

  3. What a great interview! I’ve been so curious about this series for a while now – I love the concept of angels that are sexual and not so pure, so that in itself peaked my interest. The characters also sound really great – I’m going to have to get to this series soon. Maybe when the 4th book comes out so I can enjoy them all at once.

  4. Jen

I love stories of angels being “bad”. I haven’t read any of these books, but I am looking forward to start.
