Danger waits on both sides of the grave…

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they’ve triumphed over the latest battle, Cat’s new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance…

With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous “ally”—the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war. …to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

Oh how I’ve missed Cat & Bones!

Cat & Bones are finally married and enjoying their honeymoon phase, their relationship is stronger than ever and Cat is finally getting the hang of being a full fledged vampire. Cat’s transition has come with some unexpected and unique abilities, abilities that will set off a war between vampires and ghouls…putting the long awaited honeymoon on hold…again!

I was a little surprised by this one, I really wanted a good dose of the Cat & Bones I fell in love with throughout the series but didn’t quite get it this time around. The main focus was on the potential war that was brewing between the species and less on the main couple. Although there are some tender moments between the two throughout the book, there is just one memorable steamy scene (Chapter 21) and a few teaser scenes that left me yearning for the combustible hotness that is Cat & Bones!

There are some unexpected heartbreaking moments, surprise appearances by favorite old characters and couples, but my favorite moments by far are the ones with the hot single master vampire Vlad, he steals the scene every time! Having more of him in this book was the cherry on top! This book doesn’t have the air of mystery and danger of the previous installments but it has some great humor and one-liners that keep it interesting. The lack of romance was a bit disappointing but the addition of Vlad made up for it in my opinion…I can’t get enough of him and anxiously await for his story…oh yes he will have one!

I love stepping into the Night Huntress world Jeaniene creates, she always delivers! Cat & Bones will forever have a place in my heart!
