Please join me in welcoming H.P. Mallory to Romancing the Darkside!

H.P., give us five surprising facts about yourself.
One, I am very good at jumping rope. Two, the first job I ever had was selling lables…sucked! Three, the first book I ever wrote was a historical about the Revolutionary War…also sucked! LOL Four, my favorite color is blue and five, I can speak a tad bit of German.
What writer has inspired your career as an author?
Well, I was an English major so lots of authors inspired me. Most notably though, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte and I love Margaret Mitchell. Recent authors, Karen Marie Moning, Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlaine Harris.
Which characters do you find are more fun to write about in your books: the heroes or the villains?
The hero-villains. Sinjin Sinclair and Odran from the Jolie series are easy to write and fun. So is Bram and Trey from the Dulcie series.
Urban fantasy novels are usually action packed and somewhat dark, where your books are sexy and humorous, was this writing style intentional on your part?
Yes, this is just the way I write. When I originally tried to get published and everyone said funny fantasy doesn’t sell, I tried to take the funny out of Jolie and failed. I just can’t help it–it’s how I think and how I write.
How do you think Dulcie O’Neil has grown as a character from the first book in the series?
I would say maybe she’s less angry. In the first book, you don’t learn as much about her characters as you do in the second one. In the second book, we really see Dulcie as a caring person and an awesome best friend.
Dulcie has a great sense of humor and always has a witty comeback line. Does she mirror your sense of humor in any way?
I think so. I probably can’t help but put myself into my characters since I’m writing them but yes, I’m always throwing in little quips here and there. Sometimes people laugh and sometimes they dont! LOL But, I crack myself up so it’s all good!
There are quite a number of supernatural sexy men in this series, what is your inspiration for these characters?
I just love sexy men and you can never have too many of them!
What book is currently on your nightstand?
I’m still reading the second book of the Larissa Ione Demonica series. Just don’t seem to have enough time to read and write!
Where do you love to go to do your writing?
At home, in my office with no interruptions. I also write at Barnes and Noble but I find that more difficult.
What can we expect from you in the near future?
The next Dulcie book will be out in July, followed by another in winter. Then there will be a Jolie novella out in December of 2011 and the next three books in the Jolie series will be out next year.
Thanks for the awesome interview H.P.!

About the Author:
Hi, I’m HP Mallory and I’ve written two series, the first about a fairy in law enforcement (To Kill A Warlock and A Tale of Two Goblins) and the second about a witch who can bring back the dead (Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble and Toil and Trouble).
I’m a mongo fan of anything that goes bump in the night and Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! (Quick tangent–the best costume I’ve ever worn was last year when I went as the Headless Horseman and my baby was my Jack-O-Lantern head!) I’ve always loved the Twilight Zone Marathons and if I ever saw a ghost, I think I’d wet myself.
I grew up in California although I’ve lived abroad in the UK (England and Scotland–woo hoo, gotta love those kilts!)
I’d categorize my writing as a blend of suspense, humor, light horror, and romance with a sprinkle of fantasy to tie everything together! If you are all about fairies and witches and vampires (oh my!), you love a good alpha warlock and you like men who get a little hairy during a full moon, I got the goods.

I 100% agree with your H.P – you can never get too much sexy men! That’s one of the things I love most about your books – you write amazing guys that are totally swoonworthy 🙂 Great interview!
And Wow!!! Does she know how to write sexy men or what? I love them all, even the bad ones!!
Yes, the sexy men are fantastic, but it’s the dynamics between all the characters that make it incredible! Never too many men…never. You find yourself rooting for each of them at some point, but I still have my favorites (Rand and Knight). Can’t wait for more!
Sounds like a great book. I am trying to enter but I cannot get to the form. Trying again. Donna
