Half-Fae Laird Duncan MacDougall is cursed. His nights are haunted by Otherworld creatures sent to kill him. The only way to stop them is to possess the magic bow currently in the hands of his enemy half brother, Kinnon MacClaren. In desperation, Duncan plans to take MacClaren's bride-to-be hostage and exchange her for the bow.

Lady Alana Forbes has never met her intended, but she hopes he is handsome—and a good lover, for Alana is no innocent virgin. On her way to Castle Claren, Alana and her escorts are intercepted, and she is kidnapped by a man with extraordinary abilities—and every attribute she longs for in a mate.

Duncan didn't expect the woman he thought of as a mere pawn to be so beautiful, and so arousing. Alana is drawn to him as well—but Duncan still needs the bow, and Alana is betrothed to another. How far will Alana go to save the life of the man she's come to love?

AdultsOnly I’ve never met a highlander I didn’t like and Duncan is as hot as they get!

Duncan MacDougall is a half-Fae, highlander Laird, whose nights are tormented by creatures of the Otherworld that invade his dreams and inflict torture and pain. To release himself from this ongoing battle with the beasts that come for him every night, Duncan must attain a magic bow that will banish the beasts and bring him peace, a bow that lies in the hands of his enemy and half brother, Kinnon MacClaren. Fate soon shines upon him when he encounters Lady Alana in the forest and learns she is betrothed to none other than his half-brother. Duncan sees this as an opportunity to end his curse by abducting Alana and bargaining with his brother for the magic bow. Keeping her hostage in his castle soon proves to be more troublesome than Duncan thought when desires take over and he finds himself unwilling to part with Alana.

Laird of Darkness is a magical journey into the highlands of Scotland. Duncan MacDougall will steal your heart away! He comes off as harsh and brutish at first but you soon learn this half-Fae highlander is anything but. Alana seems like your typical innocent heroine but watch out, she’s fiery and far from your virginal bride-to-be! Duncan and Alana have an instant attraction that grows into unbridled passion with each turn of the page. Their romance is a sizzling adult fairy tale that will leave you wanting…even after the happy ending!

The author stays true to historical romance by pairing two unlikely characters who realize they have more in common than expected and fall for each other, flaws and all. I became so involved in the story I nearly chucked my Nook across the room when I got to the last page, not because I didn’t like the ending but because I wanted more! There are some unanswered questions left at the end of the story that make me hopeful for a sequel and a chance to read more about Alana and Duncan!
