Welcome to Romancing the Darkside Lacey!! I’m a huge fan and am so excited to have you with us today! So without any further ado…
Give us three interesting facts about yourself that would surprise your readers.
1. I’m a natural introvert. My first reaction to anything is to stand back and be the wallflower. NO ONE believes this because I tend to really put myself out there front and center, but it has taken years of training to get myself to do that. I always have more fun though when I push through it.
2. I’m a little O.C.D. about things … like piles of products. When I was at RomCon I had to keep straightening everyone’s swag on the table. I hate messy piles! Everything looks prettier when it’s all nice and even. LOL
3. I have no patience what-so-ever! If I want something, I want it right now. It doesn’t work too well with writing. I’m waiting for someone to invent one of those little machines they have on Star Trek—ask it for something and it appears. That’s exactly what I need!! Unfortunately the universe has decided I need to learn patience instead so I have to wait for everything. *sigh* Ha,ha.
What has writing helped you discover about yourself?
It’s helped me see I can follow a project all the way through from beginning to end. I don’t know if I’ve just been searching my whole life for the thing that would define me, but I’ve kind of been a “Jane” of all trades. I went to school to major in music, switched my major to emergency medicine and worked in that field for a while before trying out massage therapy. Those have all been great things in my life, but I felt like I was floating along waiting to find the one thing I would really connect with. I think this is what I’ve been waiting for. I feel a dedication to it that was missing from other ventures in my life.
With Paranormal Romance being so popular these days, what inspired you to make your series Young Adult and not adult PNR?
I didn’t consciously set out to make it a certain genre—that was just the way the story evolved. The characters popped into my head one day and started talking to me. This has been their story from the get go. They’re the ones in the driver’s seat. If I try to make them do things they don’t want to do they get mad and quit talking!! LOL I sound like a head case, but ask any author … it’s true. The characters are the ones in charge of the story. I guess they wanted it to be Young Adult! 😀
Your book covers in this series have recently been given an awesome makeover. Why the change and do you partake in the design process at all?
Thank you! I’m glad you like them!
Well, first off I was never thrilled with the covers to begin with. I always felt there was something lacking. I was getting ready to participate with the Indie Book Collective in a large event called the Menage A Blog and I had someone give me an awesome suggestion for the covers. The muse for my character, Vance, is actor Matt Lanter. Many of my readers know that and relate the character to Matt. This person said that since Matt was participating in the event by giving away a signed photo for my Grand Prize basket, I might be missing a great marketing opportunity by not allowing the reader to associate him with the covers. The books were being moved to a new publisher and were scheduled for a new look too. So the covers were redesigned so the reader could put their own idea of Vance in there.
I’ve had help with my covers in the past. This time I designed/made them myself using some ideas from color and keyword association of readers. When I was done I showed them around to some other great cover artists for their opinions and tweaked them here or there if needed. I’ve been really happy with the end result and I love seeing people gushing over them on their blogs. That totally makes my day!
Can we expect to see any new supernatural beings in the Of Warlocks & Witches series?
Yes, sort of. I introduce a different kind of magic in book four that comes through a different species. There will also be some new magical elements in book five, Possession of Souls, as well. I wanted this world to encompass all sorts of magic and religious beliefs. It’s kind of like one big mixing pot, stirring bits and pieces of all kinds of lore and deities together. Lots of fun stuff happening!
I think it’s fair to say everyone that has read your books loves Portia and Vance together. How would you describe their relationship in one sentence?
LOL! You aren’t going to go easy on me, are you? Let’s see. Hmmm. How’s this? Intense, unconditional love trying to survive an onslaught of dark magical mayhem, and gut wrenching betrayal.
Which character in your books would you love to trade places with and why?
HA! Umm … no one? That’s a scary place to be! LOL Honestly, though, if I were to ever trade places it would be with Portia—just so I could make out with Vance!! *Yep! You read that right!!* I think that would be a little bit of heaven right there! 😉
What would you say is your motto in life?
Think positive! Try to put out into the world what you would like back from it. It’s amazing what an attitude adjustment can do for someone! Positive thoughts will bring about positive actions and brings positive results. Negative thoughts work the same way. Which would I rather have? Definitely the positive!
What book is currently on your nightstand?
LOL! I just got back from RomCon … there are 26 books on my nightstand! I’m currently reading in the first chapters of Wolfsbane, by Andrea Cremer, Vanish, by Sophie Jordan, and Drink of Me, by Jaquelyn Frank.
Any upcoming projects you’d like to share with us?
Sure. I’m working on book 5 in this series. I’ve written the ending already, just going back and filling in some more of the events that lead up to it now, but it’s mostly done. I’m also working on a fairytale/fantasy romance I hope to release this year around Christmas. It’s called Fairytale: Castle in the Clouds. I have several other stories in the works as well, both YA and Adult. I’m looking forward to sharing those with everyone too. I’m also scheduling ahead for some promotion events too, different cons and things like that, so hopefully I’ll be able to get around more and interact with some readers in person! That would be awesome!!
Just for fun:
Warlocks or demons? Demon warlocks!
Morning person or night owl? Definitely a night owl.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only chose one person, who would you want for company? Too many choices. I can think of LOTS of people I would want to be that one person. (Probably my husband. Hopefully the island will have cell service or smoke signals so I can keep texting my BFF! LOL)
What’s your current guilty pleasure? Ha, ha! *Looks around discretely* Chocolate and hunky cover models.
What’s your favorite vacation spot? The Sonoran Sea Resort in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. (a.k.a. Rocky Point)
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all my questions Lacey and congratulations on Blood of the White Witch which I know will be another hit for you!
Thanks so much for hosting me!! 😉
While searching for Vance’s missing mother, they realize they are suddenly unsure of who to trust, learning that sometimes things are not always as they appear. When Vance’s demon characteristics abruptly begin to resurface again without warning, the horrible truth comes out, crashing down upon them and shattering some of their most precious dreams. Once the deadly plan is uncovered, Portia and Vance find themselves hastily rushing against the hands of time in an attempt to stop an ancient ritual from being performed. But will they be successful before fate reaches out to twist them cruelly, possibly separating them and changing magic forever? Passion, loyalties, powers, and family ties, will all be tested when dangerous adventures abound in this third installment in the Of Witches and Warlocks series, Blood of the White Witch.
About the Author:
Lacey Weatherford has always had a love of books. She wanted to become a writer after reading her first Nancy Drew novel at the age of eight.
When she is not reading, writing, blogging, or doing book tours for her current series, she can often be found out at sporting/musical events which her kids are in or texting like crazy with her best friend.
Lacey resides in the White Mountains of Arizona, where she lives with her husband, six children, one son-in-law, and the family dog Sophie.
Lacey has been generous enough to give away one e-copy to EACH reader who comments on this post! Yeah you heard right…EACH reader!
I find it fascinating to hear that the characters sometimes just start talking and get a life of their own – as in demand to get their story written. I love PNR and a hunky cover model / hero. What’s missing? Ahhh! Chocolate… 🙂
The blurb sounds great. Thanks so much for giving each commenter a copy. That’s so nice.
