The Hadley brothers are unruly Lycans (werewolves) who need to learn how to behave in polite society. Can this pack of ‘gentlemen’ be trained in the ways of the ton, or is it too late to teach an old Lycan new tricks? Each book chronicles the schooling of a Hadley brother and the woman who tames - or is seduced by - him.
Lady Madeline Hayburn is called upon to lend her respectability to introduce the Hadley brothers to society. Mr. Weston Hadley has a huge chip on his shoulder and a scary scar on his cheek. He admires Lady Hayburn from afar, yet his very presence makes Maddie shiver with desires she never experienced before.
Corsets, balls and werewolves, Oh My!
The handsome Hadley brothers are considered the bad boys of proper society among Lady Madeline Hayburn’s social circle who also happen to be Lycans (werewolves), unbeknownst to anyone. It was three years ago when Weston Hadley first laid eyes on the beautiful Lady Madeline and was utterly captivated. Weston knows his feelings for Madeline will never be reciprocated, she’s way too proper to fall for his charm so he must settle for admiring her in secret. Her father, the Duke of Hythe, is set on finding a worthy match for Madeline, and it’s not one of the “Penniless Hadley brothers.”
Madeline has always followed the rules but she can’t help the attraction she feel towards Weston Hadley and when she is offered the chance to tame the Hadley men into proper gentlemen she jumps at the chance. She wasn’t prepared for the task at hand or the feelings of desire that come over her whenever she is in close quarters with Weston. When Madeline discovers Wes’ secret, things get a little complicated and she’s forced to break all the rules to have the excitement and passion she’s always yearned for.
Lydia Dare has skillfully married historical romance with the paranormal and the result is a heartwarming romance with charming characters. The heroine Maddie is fun and entertaining. She doesn’t fall under the usual heroine in historical romance, Maddie has a fiery side to her and is a bit outspoken, she can be naive about some things but she knows what she wants. The dashing rebellious Wes Hadley is everything you want in a romance novel, he’s a little dark, charismatic and an alpha male at heart, throw in the fact that he’s also a werewolf and you’ve won me over!
Although I would have really loved to explore the paranormal aspect of the story a little deeper, we do see Wes shift into a werewolf…once. I really enjoyed the flirting and banter between Wes and Maddie, they’re constantly trying to deny their feelings to no avail. The rest of the Hadley brothers are quite intriguing and give an added dose of humor to the events throughout the story.
THE WOLF WHO LOVED ME is a lighthearted regency romance with a dash of the supernatural. With fascinating characters and a somewhat forbidden romance it’s a delightful treat for fans and lovers of a good love story. I’m anxious to see what new adventures await the Hadley brothers and will be catching up with the series until then!
