A bewitching debut in paranormal romance by Britt Bury!
I’m a sucker for immortals but when those immortals happen to be warriors with sexy accents…I’M SOLD! Britt Bury writes an action packed and original story with a new paranormal race that will steal your heart and make you an instant fan. In THE DARKEST DAY we meet two immortal clans the Kerrs and Campbells, born enemies who have battled each other through centuries. When Kelvin Kerr’s father and Chief of the Kerr clan dies at the hands of the Campbells, his life is only consumed by one thing, vengeance. Kelvin vows to hunt down the Campbells until their last heir, but when he tracks down Izel, the last remaining Campbell, his mission and future are altered forever. Izel might be the Campbell heir but she also happens be quite unique. Being the last of her race and none other than Kelvin’s destined mate, this warrior must struggle with avenging his family or following his one shot at love.
Britt Bury captures your attention with her intense writing and intriguing characters that easily come to life page by page. The sexual tension between Kelvin and Izel is short of explosive and the two have no problem speaking their minds which makes for an entertaining adventure. Kelvin’s brutish ways towards Izel and his dark humor should be a turn off but the more this brooding immortal opened his mouth I fell in love with him more. Torn between family and love Kelvin tries his best to keep his distance from the woman who awakens his animal instincts to no avail.
At first glance Izel might seem a frail and innocent heroine, but her strength and determination are quickly revealed. She’s been sheltered from her true identity and has lived a life lacking emotion only to encounter a thousand year old immortal warrior who knows more about herself than she’s ever known…I have to hand it to her, she copes with the entire situation better than I would! I love her sass and how she holds her own when it comes to Kelvin. Although their chemistry is instant, their romance has a bit of time to bloom as they journey through the Scottish highlands. That being said, these two easily go from zero to sixty when it comes to getting down and dirty, Izel’s inexperience paired up with a frustrated lady’s man is a sexy adventure all on its own!
Bury’s magical world of the paranormal is both dark and romantic. I must admit, I had a hard time with the name Pookah when referring to these immortal hunks, it just doesn’t seem to fit their description but it definitely wasn’t enough to turn me off! The suspense and the creative world building makes for an exciting forbidden romance…and who doesn’t love that?! The story mainly revolves around our hero and heroine but we are also introduced to a few characters I’m hopeful we’ll see in later installments. If you love your Alpha’s in denial when it comes to love and a heroine who is just as stubborn, you’ll enjoy this pairing immensely. Ms. Bury’s new take on the paranormal will leave you wanting more of their immortal heat!
