“Reasons to Read Superhero Romance” by Lola Dodge
1. Mix up your typical PNR and UF reads. I love me a good vampire/werewolf/shifter/magic story, but we all need a little variety in our lives. Superhero romances have the elements you love (sexy Alpha males and kickass heroines) but the super powers create a totally different vibe than your typical mythology- and folklore-based stories.
2. Fun with gender roles. Super powers totally even the gender playing field. The beefy dude with super strength doesn’t have an advantage when the heroines are flying around shooting laser beams. Superheroines don’t just hold their own in a fight—they dominate, whether the opponent is a man, woman, or force of nature.
3. Unapologetic spandex. Mind you, the skin-tight clothes are inappropriate in 99% of life and crime-fighting, but I’m willing to wait for the 1% of the time the hero is like meh—I’ll just walk around in this fitted body suit that shows off my six-pack.
4. Super-powered sexytimes. Because every girl should get in bed with a mind reader at least once!
