A hundred years after vampires revealed themselves to the masses, the world is still recovering from the hysteria and war that devastated much of the Earth. And though peace has been brokered between the human and vampire nations, it is tumultuous at best.

Orphaned at the age of ten, Coraline Conwell has struggled to survive a turbulent existence growing up alone on the harsh streets. Until a wealthy man provides an escape from her vagrant life by offering his hand in marriage. Out of place in the upper-crust world, Cora has done her best to adapt to her new role as wife, but when her husband is brutally murdered, she is ripped from her secure life at the hands of the Vampire Enforcement Agency.

Now her survival teeters on the whim of a brutally handsome vampire named Mason as she is hunted by those who would see her dead. She must keep unwanted desires for the sexy vampire from leading her down a dangerous path while she discovers there is more to this world, and herself, than she could have ever imagined.

An action packed sexy read with a cliffhanger ending that left me shouting!

A WICKED HUNGER is a thrill ride from start to finish that will keep you guessing. Coraline Conwell has had a tough life and has found financial security in her marriage to a wealthy man. But all that glitters isn’t gold, when Cora plans to surprise her husband at a hotel…all hell breaks loose and the new life she’s become accustomed to is turned upside down by the Vampire Enforcement Agency who is investigating a case that involves her husband. With the betrayal of the man she married and assassins on her tail, Cora is rescued and taken to a safe house by Mason (Mace), a sexy vampire agent who she’ll have to trust to ensure her survival.

Kiersten Fay’s paranormal world is unique and engaging. The supernaturals in this world tolerate each other bound by a truce that is constantly being tested. Vampires have been exposed to the human population and pretty much rule behind the shadows.

Cora might now be my favorite type of heroine but she’s been through a lot so I’ll give her a pass. She was held captive by a stray vampire who used her for food so it’s not a huge surprise she’s wary of Mason when they first meet. Unbeknownst to her Mason accidentally triggers a blood bond between them, making things a bit more complicated. Cora is drawn to Mason but is constantly questioning her feelings which made me want to smack her at times…LOL Mace is definitely the kind of swoon-worthy vampire hero I love. He does everything in his power to keep Cora safe, easing her fears and eventually winning her over.

When these two finally get together we’re in for a ride of scorching smexiness! I was on board with this romance until a third party was introduced, the dark and dangerous vampire Knox. He’s the opposite of Mason but I must admit I’m a sucker for a bad boy so I enjoyed his character. Knox’s addition to the story had me dreading the threat of a possible love triangle when he creates a blood bond with Cora in order to save her. I don’t know how this will play out in the end but I’m hoping Mace and Cora can have a HEA.

I know I’m not alone when I say I loved this story up until the last few pages (hence my 4.5 stars instead of 5). We learn an interesting revelation about Cora’s heritage and I was left with a major WTF?! moment when a new character is introduced towards the end leaving us with a massive cliffhanger, you just don’t do that to a reader! A WICKED HUNGER delivers everything I like in my vampire books, suspense, alpha heroes, sexy romance, unexpect twists and an engaging plot (with the exception of the cliffhanger, of course!). I was thrilled to learn this series follows the characters in this book and look forward to what Ms. Fay has in store for Mace, Cora and Knox!

  1. I hate cliffhangers so much! I prefer a rounded ending to a book in a series, that makes you happy, and then the next book in the series should shake things up in the first chapter to put you on the edge of your seat at once.

  2. Yeah, cliffhangers are the devil. I have read and liked the first couple of books in Fay’s Shadow Quest series, so I’ll probably check out this one too . . . when there are no more cliffys 😉
