RtDS: Welcome to the blog Sara, I’m a huge fan of your writing and am so excited to have you here today! Now on with the show…
SH: Thanks so much for hosting me 🙂
RtDS: Give us three (3) facts about yourself that will surprise your readers.
SH: 1. I have crazy long toes and my husband calls them ‘alien toes’ but I like to think of them as monkey feet. 2. I used to figure skate. 3. I was an actor and my favorite role was Bananas in The House of Blue Leaves.
RtDS: What do you feel are the essential elements of a great story?
SH: Putting dynamic characters on the page and making the impossible seem probable.
RtDS: I love that your heroines, human and vampire, are just as strong as their male counterparts in this series. Where do you get your inspiration to write such strong women?
SH: Thank you! I was raised by a strong woman. My mother is smart, strong, capable, loving, and has moxie. To me, a strong confident woman is attractive and admirable. The heroines I write are all women I’d want to hang out with.
RtDS: Which do you think is more important for an author, experience or imagination?
SH: It’s a toss up but probably imagination. If you can imagine it…then you can put it on the page for the reader.
RtDS: The vampires in your Dead in the City series can have only one true mate. That mating comes with some special perks like being able to walk in daylight, can you tell us a little bit about this concept?
SH: Not all vampires have Bloodmate and until recently, most vamps thought the idea was nothing more than a fairytale. According to legend, if a vampire finds their Bloodmate and the two perform blood exchanges, they both become Daywalkers. The revelation that there are some vampires who can now walk in the sun, creates tension in the supernatural world. How much more power will the vampires be able to generate with “super vamps” roaming the earth?
RtDS: Describe the Dead in the City series in 140 characters or less.
SH: A coven of vampire chicks take a bite of the Big Apple and find love along the way. Sometimes love bites. #NYCVAMPS
RtDS: The dark and brooding vampire who struggles with his “dark side” is a popular trait among vampires in paranormal romance, yet your vampires fully embrace their nature. Did you purposely stay away from the “tortured hero/heroine” element?
SH: Yes. I love the notion of self-acceptance and embracing the good and bad that lies within all of us. Acceptance is power and in this book, Maya struggles to find and embrace her power. She is kind of tortured but Shane helps her battle her demons so she can stand on her own two feet.
RtDS: How many books do you have planned for this series?
SH: There will be five novels, one for each woman in the coven. Sadie’s book is next. VAMPIRES NEVER CRY WOLF will be out in March 2015.
RtDS: What book(s) is currently on your nightstand?
SH: The Secret. I’ve read it several times.
RtDS: Anything else you’d like to share with your readers?
SH: Just a great big THANK YOU!!!!

A fledgling vampire ignites a war…

And that’s not all that heats up…
Shane Quesada, a four-century-old vampire sentry, is known for his cold, unemotional precision, but once Maya begins to invade his dreams, his world is changed forever. His job to protect her is swiftly replaced by the all-consuming need to claim her as his own.
Fun interview, Lori! I have creepy long toes too, LOL. AND who doesn’t love Eric Northman? I have the first book in this series, and I’m looking forward to finally reading it some time soon 😉
I hope you enjoy the Dead in the City books Jessica! I have to agree..who doesn’t love a sexy Viking vampire?!
Thanks for this fun interview. As you know, these are already on my TBR, I’m just waiting for the audio release. So far they only have 3 of her books on audible, but none from this series, so I hope it’s soon.
This is a series if definitely re-read on audio! Keeping my fingers crossed for you Loupe! 🙂
I HATE toes so you lost me after the first question. Haha Naah j/k! I really loved the first book in this series, so I’m hoping to squeeze VAMPIRE TROUBLE in sooner rather than later. Right after Stomp vs Romp maybe… I can’t be pimping Romp authors during the event, and giving Jennifer the advantage. 😉
